New pontoons installed at Dielette 2010 According to Emilie in the Dielette Port Office, all the new pontoons in the outer harbour are a mixture of waiting pontoons and pontoons for visitor stays.
The visitor pontoons in the inner marina on A, part of B, and part of C appear to be the same as in previous years. Leaving Dielette at 1 hour before access to the QEII marina (in 2011) there was about 1.7m of water at the shallowest point of the harbour entrance. I think there was about 2.6m at the pontoon in front of the Dielette harbour office.
The Guernsey height above chart datum was 3.2m at that time - so you can use that to work out the height on spring tides. So a Guernsey Chart Datum of 2.5m would give about 1m at the entrance - or less!
See http://www.digimap.gg/files/tides/silldepth.aspx for chart datum information for every half hour.
Rallies - Discounts are available for rallies coming in Dielette : - 2 to 10 boats : -10% - 11 to 20 boats : -20% - more than 20 boats : -30% Also, boats having a berth in Guernsey have a 50 % discount on the mooring fees during all the year, except June, July and August. Jersey boats have a 50% discount all the year except on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

The marina
Dielette is a very pleasant marina and often has room available when Carteret is full. Only 20 mins from Carteret by car / taxi. The closest french marina to Guernsey.
The marina staff do not seem to come out at all to provide guidance but stay in their marina office. No village or town close by and so not much to do unless you have a car.
There are pontoons in the harbour where you can moor if the tide is too low to get into the Marina. Sometimes there is a bit of a surge, especially at the harbour mouth and towards low tide. You cannot get in the harbour at all tides as it has silted up, so beware. Also - be careful near the wall of the marina on the harbour side, there is a big sill.

Supermarkets - Restaurant L'Escale sells take away croissants and baguettes in the morning. Provisions can be obtained by walking 2 km to Flamanville where there is a small bread shop and another selling groceries.
Otherwise a taxi to Les Pieux puts you in a small town with two good supermarkets. A longer walk along the coast (take water if it's hot) brings you to Flamanville nuclear power station where there is an exhibition of some interest and staff who will happily answer all questions and sell you a nuclear power plant.
As you leave Dielette you will find an anti-nuclear booth! Thanks Dave C
Restaurants - L'Escale The L'Escale on the pier is next to the harbour office, eat in or outside. It has recently been extended (2011). Moules and frites or Entrecôte and frites are their specialities. Richard says - make sure the steak is French style (à point - very pink!) otherwise it will end up like a piece of charcoal.
Moules are good especially so because of the very high turn over, it is used a lot by locals and will be busy on Sunday during the summer. More so now that the new power station is being built and they have included specials at lunchtime aimed at the those workers.
Meal report from September 2011: 'Good, fast service and food came out in no time. Moules were excellent. RibEye Steak was disappointing. Little difference between the steak ordered as a point (pink) and the 2 which were bien cuit (well done). Disappointing!'

Note: The nearby fish warehouse is now closed.
Le Bouche a Oreille Down a track a ten minute pleasant walk away is Le Bouche a Oreille, we call it 'eat ear' but it really translates as 'by word of mouth'. Was Le Paradis but now under new management has undergone a revamp with a great atmosphere and food cooked on the log fire. Maitre'd speaks good English, so you can easily book in advance by phone even if your French is limited like mine.
Go for the Chateaubriand for two, unless Alexander and I are already there, in which case we will have already ordered it !! Sept 2011 went down the track and there was a notice at the restaurant (not on the sign 500m before hand on the road leading to the restaurant) which said it was closed that evening.
Hotel du Phare On a small hilltop overlooking the marina is probably the oldest of the Dielette restaurants, Hotel du Phare. Food good and a true French menu but sadly place lacks charm, nevertheless always open and rarely full, also has a few rooms available.

Hotel de La Falaise Further along the coast road towards the power station is Hotel de La Falaise, once again an easy walk all on the flat. Nicely presented rooms with typical hotel type atmosphere and food of hotel quality.

The Semaphore My favourite is The Semaphore with superb views from the cliff top location of Sark, Jersey and Alderney. Food the best in the area but will need to book as the French love it too.
The former Yacht Club - picture by Alexander Bird
The night time pictures are of the Le Raz Banchard which was (or is) the Yacht Club, the name comes from the French for the Alderney Race. Lovely lady will welcome you, and boy does she work hard.
Food very pleasant but such a pity the menu is always the same, we would so much enjoy the choice of a weekend special, mind you that doesn't stop us going because the atmosphere is probably the best of all the restaurants in the area. Pleasant bar and also a veranda for a cool beer on a summer's evening and when it is colder they light up the log fire."
DIÉLETTE Stan Cleal's recommendations -
- Hotel de la Falaise: Tel 2 33 04 08 40. On the quayside. Very reasonable €21 menu in a dining room with good views of the harbour and the Nuclear Reprocessing Plant. The €21 "assiette" is reasonable but the menu choice is very limited and the service slow.
** Le Semaphore: Tel 02 33 52 18 98. A short taxi ride towards Flamanville. The restaurant is perched on top of the cliff with great sea views and an interesting Creole cuisine together with the usual French fare. Booking at weekends is imperative. Closed Sunday evenings.
** Le Raz Blanchard: Tel 2 33 93 10 24. The Yacht Club bar and restaurant just reopened with a small but expensive menu. Early days but the service could be better and the portions larger.
* L’ Escale: Tel 02 33 52 67 10.On the quay side. Very good moules frites. Steak disappointing. Barbeque on the quayside in Summer. Order your baguette and croissants from here for the morning.
** L’Anse de Sciotot Tel No 2 94 43 01 Ludovic Bisiau. Another short taxi ride but an excellent menu for €21 including Tournedos. Order the “plateau” in advance to avoid disappointment.
