Approach to Paimpol - it is well marked but do not stray outside of the marks when the tide is marginal
As you go around the harbour breakwater, the lock comes into view. It may be open at high tide
4 hours later an the tide has gone out over a mile. Watch for the poles - there are rocks underneath
The approach to Paimpol marina - at low tide
The marina gates
The 2 areas with the Capitainerie in the middle. View as you enter the marina
We moored in the East marina as instructed. Very quiet and convenient
The Capitainerie
The lock gates from inside the marina
The Harbourmaster and his colleagues speak very good English and are very welcoming and helpful.
They said they can normally find people a berth for their boat except for mid July to mid August when boats may have to raft up.

Recent report from a visitor
We arrived at Paimpol on Sunday 5 July and stayed for 3 nights.
Once we had passed through the lock we were met by a smiling/friendly chap in his dorey who asked us how many nights we were staying. The normal visitors section in Basin 2 was full but after he had popped into the office he lead us to a locals berth in Basin 1 which was ideally placed on the outside of the first Pontoon ('L').
Once that resource is used up there is a long pontoon on the west side of Basin 1 - below is a photograph which shows probably less than half its length
Long pontoon on west side of basin - picture by Phil Ball
And a Marinas.com picture which shows 3 power & 3 sail tied up on the pontoon with plenty of space for other boats to raft up although availability of electricity may be a problem.

Incidentally, there was a display in the Marina Office of plans to move the lock to the Harbour entrance & construct another marina inside.
Restaurants
PAIMPOL
Restaurant du Port - excellent food - ate upstairs 2007
*** La Vieille Tour: Tel 2 96 20 83 18. Wonderful cuisine slightly “nouvelle “ with good service and wine list. Reservation essential.
** Le Marché dans l’Assiette: Tel 2 96 55 15 90. Rue des Huit Patriotes. Speciality oxtail à l’ardoise. All fresh food with good service.
*** are based on value for money, good service and cuisine - with thanks to ©Stan Cleal
There are lots of restaurants along the marina
Lots of restaurants
Ty Krampouz - Ate there in 2011. Good variety of food. Excellent crepes and galletes but also a range of normal restaurant plates. Price was reasonable and service was good. Popular place in the main square.
Ty Krampouz
L'Islandais on the front - some found it disappointing - 2009
L'Islandais
La Cotriade (Tel 02 96 20 81 08 http://la-cotriade.com) good and cheerful staff, but no better than many Guernsey restaurants & not cheap - 130 Euros for 2!! - and we were eating & drinking the cheaper items - 2009
The Harbour office said it was good (2011)
