Welcome to Belgium. Yes, it’s very flat, but this is a long day distance-wise and not to be underestimated, particular if the weather is not on our side. The route takes us through the coastal town of Nieuwpoort and then inland along the canals to the breathtakingly beautiful city of Bruges, where we will till take a long stop to allow an early lunch in the central cafes.

The rest of the day is a churn through miles of pan-flat tree-lined suburban avenues and canal paths, round the city of Ghent before a quick stop for a second, late lunch in the Ghent suburbs. After a park stop in Lokeren, we separate from the vehicles for the ride into Antwerp on dedicated cycle infrastructure, including the 500m pedestrian/cycle Sint-Annatunnel which takes us under the river to the hotel.
